When you invest in equity, you are buying a percentage or share of a business in the hope the value of that company will increase overtime.

Hopefully, the business you invest in will make an exit (by floating on the stock market) at a much higher value than when you initially invested, and should that happen, you will get an increasedreturn on your investment and make a profit.

It is always important to remember that when you invest in a start-up business, it carries significant risk (including illiquidity, lack of dividends, loss of investment, and dilution).

Crowdcube has a dedicated page which explains further on the risks involved, you can read more about this on their website. (https://www.crowdcube.com/explore/risk-warning)
